The lens flare equations only work with distinct center points, so you'd
have to distribute several flares throughout your text.  Or you might
get better results with just one big anamorphic glow in the center, if
you want the "WGBH Boston" sort of effect.  I'm working on a glow feature
for 4.0 that might be more like what you have in mind.  It adds an aura
around certain surfaces, an effect inspired by Japanese animation.  It
should be great for things like neon lights, but it's a lot slower than
lens flare because it's based on the exact shapes of the surfaces and not
just a center point.
